Thanks for stoppin' by. This site is dedicated to our family (The Hitipeuws & The Rohns) also for our friends all over the world. From Jakarta to Florida.

A little about myself, I'm a mom of one robust toddler who's a photography enthusiast, writing is also a huge passion of mine so you’ll read a lot of my rambling here as this is the place where I normally get on my soap box and pour what I feel and think.

Feel free to leave a message but I don't accept invites from stores or you with an empty Multiply page. Have a sunny happy day!

Create your own visitor map!

UPDATED: Seems like my internet connection is way TOO slow here and until I can get a better (read: faster) internet provider I won't be able to open & update my page here so feel free to 'find' me here:

also for my friends you know where to reach me. That's why I've been blogging here (if you're interested to read our stories, anyway)

But now I'm back (big YAY!) although for only 2 weeks or so. Yes, I'm in Jakarta again thanks to the super tight rules for our visas. We're not the only ones who grunted under our breaths because of the whole Olympic 'magic' effects when it comes to visas, paper works and stuffs in China.

I'm happy to be back but I hope that things will go back to normal once the Olympic is over. Did you guys know that they had 'temporarily' stop issuing 12 months visa or even multiple entry visa? And one cannot go to HongKong to renew their visa (I'm still a green passport holder so sadly I fell into the category of must return to their country for visa renewal) and you can't extend your visa in China anymore. The only visas you can get...

He switched his day off to Thursday and Friday, which is great too because when we go places it won't be as crowded as the actually Saturday or Sunday.

Yesterday he took us for lunch at the one and only Indonesian restaurant in GZ named Pandan. The traffic just to go there was really bad it took us almost an hour but I'm glad when we got there because the ambiance is great and very Indonesian. The food however for me is just okay, isn't the best. Like Daniel (the Indonesian guy that run the place) explained to my husband they have to alter some of the food to better suit the local Chinese palate and they have to just do with whatever ingredients available here. FYI, it is quite difficult to find some of the unique Indonesian ingredients here such as the sweet soy sauce. Daniel wasn't there as he's back in Indonesia shopping for the restaurant. We did however met some Indonesian college students...

The views from above were amazing, unfortunately my camera was out of reach (stowed in the overhead bin with my backpack) but you can see rows after rows of apartments buildings and more high rises buildings.

I was pretty tired after we got back to the apartment not merely from the flight but from all the running around and lack of sleep since a few days before our trip here. Hubby asked us to go to a mall nearby where there's also a supermarket to get some stuffs early in the evening. "Don't worry the mall close late here" he assured me. So off we walked down to the mall and although it is not too far its also not that close either. He then explained to me that he had learnt to walk slow here due to the humidity level, one could literately sweat so much with a paced walk. He also pointed out to the other passerby who really does walks a bit slower and looks as if they're just strolling for some fr...

Sex And The City

Finally, I got to see the movie I’ve been waiting since last year. Yeah, baby! It’s Sex and The City.

As a huge fan of the original series (oh did I mentioned I used to own the whole seasons DVD?) I always always love Sex and The City. From the fashions, to the love stories, finally to the core of it all…those beautiful friendship between the girls, which is something very rare to find in real life. It's totally a chick flick!

The movie is GREAT GREAT GREAT! I don’t care of all the critiques out there bashing the movie. I love every second of it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the movie. There, I said it out loud LOL! Found myself laughing and crying every other minute. So happy to see the girls again after 4 years!

Unfortunately, watching the movie here in Indonesia where they CENSORED some scenes cut away the fun of it. Geez, can’t wait until the original DVD are out (of course you can always buy those cheap pirated one at the mall but I wouldn’t want that coz it'll only hurts your eyes...

Istri-Istri Orang Seberang (Kisah Hidup Pasangan Kawin Campur)

This book supposes to talk about the life story of mix marriages couples especially from Indonesian women perspective. However, I was let down big time after I read it. Why? Simply because of many typos in the book and the use of language that is very similar to Oh Mama, Oh Papa column in one of Indonesian magazine. I think the concept is great but the execution is poor.

~ PPF: Deliciously Twisted ~

Heather had chosen quite a challenging theme this week with the word 'twisted'. As I walk around my mother's house I found this on the kitchen table:

Taken with Rebel XTi. Edited in PS CS3

This is something that Indonesians (and mostly Asians) are familiar with, it called Kerupuk (Cracker). Indonesians loves their kerupuk and living in the States for awhile, it's pretty hard to find these specific kinds of kerupuk. They're very crunchy, delicious and this one is made out of tapioca starch and other ingredients I do not know. Most people eat them with their main meals something like a condiment (I think!) but some people (like my hubby) will eat them as a snack, especially those Kerupuk Udang (Shrimp Crackers) LOL.

To see the whole picture please click here.

Join the fun at PPF.

About A Boy

He was almost a fragile looking little boy, that’s an image I had in my mind. Yet many years had passed since the last time I saw him, childhood came and goes beyond words.

God called his beautiful mother home when he was still in need of her love, her guidance. The day she passed away, his childhood suddenly came to a halt, it stopped, frozen, he had to step up forced to be an adult, to be strong, to hold his little brothers and youngest sister. In a way, he became a mother for them all. A grieving father too broken hearted and too deep in his sadness to fit the emptiness his wife had left behind also pushed this boy to speedily matured. One can only imagine the life they have to endure.

Families stepped in; in the name of love they were separated. One has taken by Auntie this and one by Uncle that. They’re all in good and loving hands there’s no doubt about yet it’s heartbreaking to see them apart these brothers and sister.

This boy had lived in several towns around East...

Sex and The City Crazed

Gosh, finally the movie is playing at the theater here. *Jumping with joy!*

I suppose to go and see the movie last Saturday, unfortunately since it's the weekend and the movie itself just premiere a few days before all the tickets for 03:15 PM are already sold out even the 06:15 one. Later than that is definitely out of the question. Reggy's girlfriend, Hannah were already at the mall trying to get the tickets but it's too packed so we cancel our plan to see Sex and The City with her sister.

Well, just my luck again, Hannah catch chicken pox on Sunday. Yup, you read that right, chicken pox. So she can't go anywhere.

I've been thinking maybe I'd just go to the theater by myself while Alex is taking his afternoon nap. Have you ever been to a movie solo? LOL! Most of my friends are busy busy busy working. Yola & Anne, mo nonton gak??? Gosh, I'm such a chick when it comes to SATC!

(This song is originally sing by Don Henley of The Eagles but I fell in love with India Arie's ...

IUC (& its ex) + MPers Meet Up

June 19, 2008 was one of the most memorable day of my days in Jakarta. Why? Because we got to meet lots of great friends and new friends. It’s the big gathering held for IUC members (also its ex) and MPers.

Arranged by Yola & Tia (thanks ladies), total members who RSVP-ed along with their families are 42 people. Plenty huh? LOL.

The ‘committee’ had an early ‘meeting’ over coffee (and some doughnuts) at J.Co at Plaza Semanggi in the morning before the big lunch event. I was early then Airin the pretty girl from Singapore showed up followed by Yola then Usi Sherly, Anne & Tia also Ratih. Indah and Erna came a bit late since they just arrived from Batam the same day. We had so much fun laughing and talking.

At lunch, the more the marrier…Finally got to met Nina from Japan with her beautiful family (thanks for the house warming gift Nina!).

Keagan’s sweet smiles and bright brown hair makes the day even brighter, so happy to meet you again after Houston, P!

Extravagance

Some pictures of the necklaces from Borneo that didn't make the cut for PPF this week. These necklaces are not for sale (yet) I was just playing around & experimenting with different angles of taking picture. It's a bit challenging to take a good picture for a necklace like the ones you saw in a catalogue

~ PPF: Extravagance (From Borneo's Water) ~

This week's theme is quite challenging. I missed last week's fun but after I put my thinking cap on this is what I come up for the theme Extravagance:

Taken with my Rebel XTi edited in Photoshop CS3.

It's a fresh water pearls necklace from Borneo. Pretty isn't? Unfortunately I still haven't get a chance to wear it since my mom gave them to me. Why, you asked? Easy, because somebody is too intrested in pulling on them whenever I tried to put it on LOL! So as extravance as it is to wear jeweleries, with a toddler I think I still have hold back a little and only wear something simple.

I was going to start a little business of selling necklaces from Borneo awhile ago but really have't get a chance to get into it. Here are more pictures of the necklaces if you'd like to see.

Join the fun here.

Went there early and since the traffic wasn’t that bad we get there about an hour earlier than our scheduled appointment. Luckily we could go in pretty much right away. Problems arise when it’s time to weigh and taking his height. He’ll chomp down snacks (or other ‘unhealthy’ foods such as French fries and nuggets) but when I try to feed him either he’ll close his mouth shut and turning his head away or simply put in his mouth then spit it out. The first time I ever heard this song was when my family and I were having coffee at Citos. We didn't know that they were having MTV VJ hunt thing and it was recorded for MTV there. Of course I have no idea who this guy is but he litterarily brought Citos down. Although I can't even see him from Starbuck's seat I could see teenage girls went crazy and started singing with him. Turned out that his name is Afgan and he's a new singer in Indonesia who's enjoying a huge popularity since he released his first album this March of 2008 and had made a huge hit with this song. I think this young man really have a good voice and I just hope all the popularity he got now won't get into his head too much and ruin his career.

A Little Worried

As the time to finally go to Guangzhou, China (GZ) really coming fast, I start to get nervous again.
One expatriate lady from the States has been writing such a great insightful blog about living in GZ and from her stories of everyday lives there I could get a clearer picture of how it’s going to be. I even learnt about that machine to sterilize the dishes LOL. Here’s a picture that my husband took using his cell phone (I brought all the digital cameras with me, sorry hun!). From what I read in the blog this machine uses 120 minutes worth of UV light to kill any germs on the dishes so after you do the dishes (manually) you suppose to put them in this thing. Intersting, huh? I never seen anything like this my whole life.

From her blog, I also learn about how poor the air quality there because of pollution and it really makes me worried about Alexander’s health. Jakarta is very polluted as well and he’s been sick like twice already with a really bad cold since we got here. His coughin...

Mama's Birthday

My mother’s birthday fell on June 3 and it’s a really special thing since Alexander and I could be here to celebrate her day, although one thing is missing…my father who’s in Congo. But anyway, a few days before her birthday my brothers and I has been discussing what should we get for her. We finally agreed and assigned my brother Reggy to go and get the present and the card.
When the clock strikes midnight, the three of us knock on Mama’s room (she’s always stay up late!) and we sang Happy Birthday To You when she opened the door. She opened the present and totally loves it as she said she’s been eyeing that one at the store LOL!

In the morning, Reggy’s girlfriend, Hannah came and gave Mama a beautiful yummy fruit birthday cake. One of my mother’s friend from her teenage years also came by and bring a platter of ‘jajan pasar’ (which, I failed to photograph. Sigh!). The night of her birthday we all went out for dinner at Tamani Café and Hannah joined us too. We didn’t take my pict...
