Blog Entry~ PPF: 10 Minutes to Picture Perfect~Aug 15, '08 7:28 AM
for everyone

Been MIA from PPF's fun for over a month now due to our moving to Guangzhou, China and I miss it SO MUCH! Well, now that I am back in Indonesia for 2 weeks YAY!, I'll be able to participate again (our internet connection in China isn't very reliable plus Multiply is still banned there. Sigh!)  Here's my take on this week's theme:

Intersection

It's a picture of one intersection nearby our compound in Huadu District of Guangzhou, China. It is about 10 minutes walk and I just love how colorful they look.

Join the fun here and have a fun weekend peeps!

Blog Entry~ PPF: Deliciously Twisted ~ Jun 26, '08 4:06 AM
for everyone

Heather had chosen quite a challenging theme this week with the word 'twisted'. As I walk around my mother's house I found this on the kitchen table:

Taken with Rebel XTi. Edited in PS CS3

This is something that Indonesians (and mostly Asians) are familiar with, it called Kerupuk (Cracker). Indonesians loves their kerupuk and living in the States for awhile, it's pretty hard to find these specific kinds of kerupuk. They're very crunchy, delicious and this one is made out of tapioca starch and other ingredients I do not know. Most people eat them with their main meals something like a condiment (I think!) but some people (like my hubby) will eat them as a snack, especially those Kerupuk Udang (Shrimp Crackers) LOL.

Blog Entry~ PPF: Industry (Little Giant) ~Jun 18, '08 7:14 AM
for everyone

Tint, our host this week at PPF surely picked a very interesting theme. Unfortunately I have no pictures that match the theme so I started walking around the house and then it hit me…I’ve been very close to that word industry pretty much all my life.

Here’s the picture:

Caterpillar 789 haul truck

(Taken with Rebel XTi, only editing is resizing and adding my copyright)

It’s a picture of a Caterpillar 789 off road haul truck miniature. My father has been working in the mining industry even long before I was born. That explained the many collection he have of mining equipments miniature such as this one.  This is just the miniature but a very heavy one as it’s completely made out of metal. It’s one of the ‘big gun’ in mining industry because of its sizes and capabilities. Standing at 20 feet high and weighing at 317 tons this truck is huge!

I was lucky to have an opportunity to ride this giant a long time ago in the old coal mining company my father used to work at. Man, it’s so awesome!

I did take another picture so you can see how it looks like but I don’t want to break the rules so I posted it on my flickr page.  Feel free to see it here.

PS: I'll be out all day tomorrow but I'll try to catch up ASAP. Thanks!

Some pictures of the necklaces from Borneo that didn't make the cut for PPF this week. These necklaces are not for sale (yet) I was just playing around & experimenting with different angles of taking picture. It's a bit challenging to take a good picture for a necklace like the ones you saw in a catalogue LOL.

Blog Entry~ PPF: Extravagance (From Borneo's Water) ~Jun 12, '08 4:07 AM
for everyone

This week's theme is quite challenging. I missed last week's fun but after I put my thinking cap on this is what I come up for the theme Extravagance:

Pearls of Borneo

Taken with my Rebel XTi edited in Photoshop CS3.

It's a fresh water pearls necklace from Borneo. Pretty isn't? Unfortunately I still haven't get a chance to wear it since my mom gave them to me. Why, you asked? Easy, because somebody is too intrested in pulling on them whenever I tried to put it on LOL! So as extravance as it is to wear jeweleries, with a toddler I think I still have hold back a little and only wear something simple.

I was going to start a little business of selling necklaces from Borneo awhile ago but really have't get a chance to get into it. Here are more pictures of the necklaces if you'd like to see.

Blog Entry~ PPF: Roadside (Super Mini Mini Mart)May 28, '08 12:40 PM
for everyone

At first I thought I'd miss this week's PPF due to my son having another cold. But this afternoon when he woke up from his nap feeling and looking better I immediately took him out for a walk and at the same time goes picture hunting LOL.

Here's one of the picture that I thought I 'submitted' (had others but I chose this ones and will post the rest on a separate album later on).

Mini Mini Mart

Taken with Canon Rebel XTi. Edited in Photoshop CS3.

It's a picture of a very common thing in Indonesia especially in Jakarta. It's called 'warung' a really small shop usually located on just about every corner of the street. They sell almost anything you can imagine from cigarettes to instant sachets coffee to eggs, crackers, snacks and cold drinks even some glue (like I just found out this afternoon LOL!).

They may be small but they might surprise you LOL.

PS: I might be a bit behind in visiting other entries this week due to my son's cold and a busy weekend ahead of me but I'll come around. Thanks people!

Blog Entry~ PPF: Broken ~May 21, '08 7:14 AM
for everyone

This week's theme is from Heather and when first saw it I just knew I have to take a picture of this particular item standing in my mother's room, BROKEN just like the theme.

Well, this is what happened when you have one curious toddler in a pretty much un-childproof home LMAO:

Broken

Camera: Canon Rebel XTi
Exposure:    1/125
Aperture:   f/7.1
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO:          400
Flash: No flash
Edited: Photoshop CS3

My son has been so fascinated with these standing lamps my mother put on her bedside and a couple of days ago he successfully slammed it to the wall and here's how the lamp looks like now, of course being a first time grandparents, there's nothing much they can say LOL.

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: Gossamer ~May 9, '08 12:16 AM
for everyone

This week's theme on PP is quite challenging as I got to learn a new word of:

GOSSAMER

NOUN:

  1. A soft sheer gauzy fabric.
  2. Something delicate, light, or flimsy.
  3. A fine film of cobwebs often seen floating in the air or caught on bushes or grass.

ADJECTIVE:

Sheer, light, delicate, or tenuous.

ETYMOLOGY:
Middle English gossomer : gos, goose ; see goose + somer, summer (probably from the abundance of gossamer during early autumn when geese are in season)

As I walked around the house, I spotted this item and hoping that it would fit the theme.

Gossamer-3

It's a picture of a traditional duster us, Indonesians are familiar with called "Kemoceng" made out of chicken's feathers. Here's how it really looks like:

Gossamer-2

PS: Pictures were taken with Canon Rebel XTi then edited with Photoshop CS3

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: Safe ~Apr 24, '08 7:05 AM
for everyone

This week our host Cherie had chosen Safe as the theme for Picture Perfect.

After I read it I quickly grab my camera and walked around to find the 'perfect' object that suits the theme. I found couple of pictures and had a hard time choosing but then settled for this one.

(Double click for better viewing)

It's one of my mother's nick-nacks she placed in a higher shelf so my son can't play with it. The writing on it is:

I will never forget you...

I have carved you upon the palms of My hands

(Isaiah 49:15-16)

I personally find this little ornament to be a gentle reminder of how God will always keep us safe no matter what happen in our lives, at least that's how I feel...SAFE under His protections.

Blog Entry~ PICTURE PERFECT : Fragile ~Apr 17, '08 8:30 PM
for everyone

My first entry from Jakarta, Indonesia. After our trip here last week, had to 'skipped' last week's PPF. Hope everyone is doing great.

This is a picture of one of the front window at my parents' house. I totally adore these windows as it have Balinese character on it (don't exactly know who he is). I got some ideas of the word theme 'fragile' especially with my mother's little knick-knacks of collection unfortunately we had already emptied out her shelves because it was too much of a temptation for those two pairs or curious little hands LOL.

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: Framed ~Apr 3, '08 9:11 AM
for everyone

Time for PPF again? WOW! This will be my last PPF entry from the States are we are moving and I'll be going back to Indonesia for awhile next week (April 8th, 2008) but you bet I'd still join the fun.

This week's theme is: FRAMED.

After going thru' my pictures I decided to put this one up.

Bali Mandira Hotel

I took this picture with my first digital camera, I can't even remember the brand but it was only 3 MPX or something. Anyway, this picture was taken at Bali Mandira Hotel in Bali, Indonesia the last time I went to Bali in 2004. This hotel is definitely one of my favorite hotel, the ambience is just amazing & so relaxing. It's right across the beach too. I actually went there for a job interview and although I didn't get the job at least I got to stay there for free on the weekend LOL. Can't wait to go back there again.

Have a fun PPF, people!

PS: More Bali pictures here.

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: Illumination ~Mar 27, '08 10:33 AM
for everyone

Our host at PPF this week Cherie picked an interesting word for the theme this week. Illumination that is.

Went through my pictures folders and found this picture.

It's a picture of what I belief to be a statue of Shinta (of Rama & Shinta) in a restaurant where my parents and us had dinner to celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary when I went home to Indonesia last year. I love how the light illuminate the statue in just the right angles.

When I see this picture and the fact that it was the night when we celebrated their anniversary, I can't help but wishing them many more years of togetherness and may divine illumination follow them both.

Picture was taken with Sony DSC-W55 & edited with PhotoShop CS3.

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: Gobsmacked ~Mar 20, '08 9:34 AM
for everyone

Learnt a new vocabulary from this week's theme!

This is a picture of my son with his uncle Danny on the first night we were in Jakarta, the first time these two met. What gobsmacked me from this picture is to see how close the two of them got in such a short time, how my tattooed youngest brother who always look tough embrace his first nephew, how my son immediately took to his uncle when he normally would be a bit shy. Their bond was undeniable and it just melts my heart. To see my brother who normally can’t stand little kids being so extremely gentle and tender with my son is just priceless!

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: Movement ~Mar 6, '08 9:57 AM
for everyone

I really don't have the 'right' picture for PPF but I did find these pictures to fit what our host had picked for this week's theme. These were taken by my husband's family with a regular camera I think and I scanned it awhile ago & do some touch ups using Photoshop since some of the pictures are over 20 years old and some are in poor condition. I hope that I'm not breaking the rules too much (I do apologize Heather!)

My husband has always been interested in horses. He got his first pony when he’s 9 years old. He loves everything about them…even the smell of them. To pursue his passion, he enrolled in Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship in Parkersburg, West Virginia. It was there that he learned dressage, a style of riding that teaches riders the art of guiding horses through difficult exhibition movements with barely visible commands, such as pressure with the knees. From there, The Royal Lipizzan Stallions Show was his ‘life’ for a couple of years. For more pictures you can see it in my photo album here.

horse2

(For better viewing, please click on the pictures)

and I just had to add this one last picture taken by a professional photographer (my husband can't remember exactly the name)

horse1

I found the "MOVEMENTS" of these horses to be amazing, I never thought these big animals could move in such harmony & elegance.

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: INFINITE (Thank You) ~Feb 29, '08 2:32 PM
for everyone

Again, I didn't think I would participate this week but I had a strong feeling that I MUST do this, as a way to convey my gratitude to all the beautiful hearted people out there even to some strangers that responded to my posting 2 days ago.

My little boy is now home and I strongly believe that God had did wonders on him, He had listen to all the prayers lifted up from all over the world for our Alex. I posted about his condition on Wednesday evening and yesterday a nurse told me that he looks like a completely different boy compare to the first time we brought him to the ER and the first 48 hours after he was admitted.

He was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis. Everything escalated so fast from the first time he got the symptoms. Monday morning he had a runny nose and I thought he’s just catching a cold, he have no fever and was still acting normally, on Tuesday morning however, he woke up then start coughing but still no fever. Tuesday night he started wheezing so badly that’s when we decided to took him to the ER. They found out that his oxygen level was low and the ER doctor first told us from the look on his X-rays that he has a viral pneumonia thus needed to be admitted immediately.

It was the worst & scarriest 3 days of our lives. Seeing your baby suffered is just beyond explanations, the helplessness eat you up inside, I wish I could trade place with him and be the one who got prodded and hooked up to all kinds of machines. He was traumatize by the experience from the ER to the room that he’d start screaming whenever a nurse or a doctor came by to check on him. Poor thing!

Our pediatrician Dr. Head told us last night that he doesn’t have the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) which is a huge relief to know. His sudden illness might be caused by the fact that he was born prematurely & had problem breathing right after he was born or from the on going flu season.

Anyway, what happened had strongly sealed my faith that God is there and most importantly He listens! Through His INFINITE love, He answers the prayers, hope & faith!

PS: The candle picture was taken with my Sony Cybershot DSC-W55 in my bathroom about 2 months ago & edited with photoshop to add the scripture.

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: Shadow (A Heartfelt Tribute) ~Feb 21, '08 11:14 AM
for everyone

This week’s theme is Shadow.

At first I thought I'd pass but then I realize that I had just the picture and it might help me feel better. I’m going to break the rules (I’m sorry Heather & Tint) as I want to show more than one picture.

G'bye Elvis

These are pictures of my dog Elvis, my baby, who just passed away 2 days ago. I’m still so broken hearted by his passing. My heart still skipped a beat when I heard the blinds as he loved to lay there and often went crazy when he saw people outside. I kept hearing his breathing and gentle snoring sounds - though I knew they weren't really there any more.

My baby

We buried him in the backyard yesterday afternoon and he looked like he’s just sleeping, he looked ‘normal’ like his old self, as if that cruel illness never took a grip of his poor little body. We put his favorite toys with him, a squirrel and a squeaky bone. I had to leave as they start the burial process. Tears were streaming down hard and fast as I walked back into the house.

It still feels like yesterday when my husband came home from work and I heard that familiar pug’s panting and I just fell in love with him. He’s my first dog here, my friend at home when I’m alone, he even slept in our bed, by my feet. Hard to believe that we only had him for less than 3 years and now he’s gone. (He's almost 9 years old)

I will remember you

My heart aches when I go thru his pictures and my 14 months old son said “Puppy!” pointing at Elvis. He loves that dog too and Elvis has always been very gentle with Alexander. No matter how many times Alexander tried to pull his ears, his tails, he never gets mad.

So long my friend…I hope you will know how much you are loved and will always be loved. I miss you!

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

This week's theme is so much fun for me personally as Red is my favorite color of all time and I have so many red thingy around the house and even several red pictures, thus the hard time picking on just one (I'm a Pisces and sometimes, well most of the times it's hard for me to choose). But anyway, I managed to pick this one.

Blog Entry~ Picture Perfect: House and Home ~Jan 30, '08 5:15 PM
for everyone

I clearly can't resist to wait after I got my idea for this week's PPF and I know I'm jumping in early again but oh well...I'm just as excited as a little girl on a Christmas morning LOL.

(Click picture to see the original size)

Ok, here's the story about this picture, my hometown is in Indonesia but now my home is here in the States. Although I'm far away from my roots, I always try to put some Indonesian touches here and there in our house, it's just my way of taking my home with me wherever I go. Also because I want to be able to share my roots with my son and may he one day realize how rich his life is with both cultures embracing him. You can see bigger size pictures of all the pictures I put up there in my photo album.

Thanks for looking!
